I'll be in Barcelona, teaching and eating ham. I'll be giving a public lecture at the Roca Gallery in partnership with Erasmus Mundos and Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.
I'll be discussing contemporary contradictions in disaster and resilience. As the world faces an escalating threat of disaster - stronger storms and higher urban densities - the solutions for resilience seem obvious. Build better, build smarter, invest in infrastructure. Paradoxically, we often ignore common sense approaches and build higher and higher levels of risk into our built and natural environments. Cesal's research and lecture will dissect the social, legal and economic forces that drive risk into our built environment, bearing equally on architects, planners, and citizens.
